This continues to the point of end ( POE), which is identical to the point of beginning, since all properties must have enclosed boundaries. Starting at the POB, the length of each boundary is described and the angle that it forms with the previous boundary. A mete is a boundary line and bounds is the area enclosed by the metes - hence, the name. A metes-and-bounds description uses lengths and angles of boundaries starting at the point of beginning ( POB). Metes-and-bounds descriptions were used in the original 13 colonies before the rectangular survey system was developed. There are 3 independent methods that can be used to determine the exact location and boundaries of a parcel of land: Legal descriptions always note the county and state in which the property is located. The Federal Bureau of Land Management and the USDA Forest Service are developing a National Integrated Land System (NILS), using common methods nationwide based on new technology and software to record the survey data and other information for land records. Today, the accuracy of property descriptions is greatly enhanced using computers, satellites, lasers, and global positioning systems (GPS). If the location, size, and shape of buildings on the lot are also given, then it is called a spot survey. The surveyor prepares 2 documents: a survey that gives the property's description and a survey sketch that shows the location and dimensions of the parcel. Only a licensed surveyor should prepare property descriptions, since inaccuracies can cause title problems later. Legal descriptions are generally prepared by a licensed surveyor, who is trained and authorized to locate and determine the legal description of any property.

com/ d s n e z h k o v / r a c k eteer) and hope to find a way of bringing this as an optional test case to our clients. I’ve been using the GitHub release ( github. In the past when asked this question, my answer was almost always, “If we get code execution, we could probably execute ransomware.” But with Racketeer, there is no hypothetical. As we know, 2021 has been a lucrative year for ransomware threat actors, and clients want to know if they are at risk for this type of attack. Racketeer is a ‘defanged’ ransomware command and control platform. However, it differed in the nature of the tool being presented and its acute relevance. Typical for DefCon, this talk covered the release of an open-source tool. Prototyping Controlled Ransomware Operations by Dimitry ‘Op_ Nomad’ Snezhkov ( w a t c h ? v = V J 8 a q R eB118). My second Best in Show talk was Racketeer Toolkit. Overall, this talk opened my eyes to ways that I could help the security of reporters trying to deliver their stories. When sending a reporter into the thick of it, communication cadences and threat reports are critical factors. This section reminded me of the military handled threats during my time there. However, his points about the responsibilities of the editor with regards to maintaining the safety of the reporter hit home for me. Strong passwords, 2FA, VPNs, updating, and secure messaging all made the list. Overall, the cyber best practices he recommended were typical. I initially assumed this was more of a consideration overseas, but when he hit the audience with a survey showing that 90% of respondents experienced some sort of safety issue / threat within the US, his point felt closer to home. He talked in depth about the range of threats, from reputation attacks, harassment, and hacking to homicide. This unique talk discussed threats and problems facing reporters as well as reducing risk through best practices. The first was A Look Inside Security At The New York Times Or A Media Security Primer For Hackers by Jesse ‘Agent X’ Krembs ( w a t c h ? v = U 2 - 8 M N x8nsg). While all the talks I attended were engaging, there are two that I consider Best in Show. This year featured interesting topics ranging from breaking into an ATM without a pin or key, to organizing nation states to discuss cyber ‘norms’ and malicious activity at the UN level. The talks were engaging and interesting. The conference badge still offered an enjoyable puzzle plus, you had all sorts of friendly people throwing out pointers on where to look next. This was probably the perfect DefCon for first-time attendees.Įven with these differences, much still felt the same. It was great! I even grabbed a few hardware badges, which in the past were almost always sold out. This time, I breezed through everything in five minutes. The previous time I stood in line to get my conference badge, I waited for close to three hours. The typical nickname of ‘linecon’ didn’t apply this year. How was it different? The normal sea of people totaling around 20,000 looked to be more like 3,000. This month we returned to Vegas after a year hiatus to a very different DefCon 29. A celebration where hackers and thought leaders come together to discuss new findings and topics, compete against each other in capture-the-flag competitions, and party with new and old colleagues and friends. For those who don’t know, DefCon is a celebration disguised as a cybersecurity conference. Ant Movie CatalogĪnt Movie Catalog is a simple and free movie cataloging program. Logic Pro X Focuses on Being Beginner-Friendly And the Logic development team have made many an improvement. At the time of this post, Logic is now sitting on version 10.3.2. But a site dedicated to Logic with the beginner in mind, with unconditional love and support? As a longtime Logic fanboy, the one thing I’ve always wanted was a centralized hub for us Logic fans. Why Logic Pro Rules is a blog dedicated to the most awesome Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) from Apple. Now before the armchair quarterbacks start revving up to let me know what’s what, lend me your ear. Is it worth it to own the best DAW ever created? Is it worth it to buy Logic Pro X? Should you buy Logic Pro X? Well, let me ask you – What felt like a cool, badass thing to do in the moment now looks like thuggish lawlessness. It's a nuanced debate, and you'll find yourself regretting things you did earlier as you realise how those actions can be perceived. That theme finally flourishes in the final act, as you're forced to justify Bigby's actions over the series and convince the Fabletown community that the sometimes brutal protection the wolf offers is morally different to that peddled by The Crooked Man. In many ways, The Wolf Among Us trades in the same queasy ethical quandaries as Papers, Please: the knowledge that being fair in the wider sense often means doing things that feel unfair at an individual level. The underlying theme of the whole season has been the balance between justice and revenge and the struggle to apply the law fairly. If the finale hits some obvious beats, it also makes overdue use of the decisions you've been making. You'll probably guess correctly, but the fact that you would be guessing - since you've accumulated no clues or evidence - can't help but undermine the detective aspect of the series. You get the option of picking who you think did it, but equally you can opt to just be told. The identity of the killer, a mystery which drove the earlier episodes, is tossed into the mix so casually it almost feels like a deliberate gag. He was simply dropped into the story at the end of chapter 3, and there was clearly no way that I wasn't going to find him in the end. My enjoyment of the Crooked Man character was always slightly tainted by the fact that the route to his door wasn't something I'd worked out or even earned. You'll be confronting the characters you expected to confront and fighting the ones that have been established as likely boss-fight candidates over the previous four episodes. In narrative terms, the conclusion is much more solid, if somewhat predictable. The Crooked Man's seemingly rational criminality makes for a good, if clichéd, counterpoint to Bigby's rough brand of justice. Since these stilted, shallow, button-mashing and thumbstick-aiming moments, chopped up by dozens of little loading pauses, have been the weakest parts of The Wolf Among Us, their dominance here can't help but make this climax feel clumsy, right in the cathartic moments when it needed to be graceful and slick. A hefty chunk of the episode is just Bigby on his own, fighting and chasing rather than interacting. This episode is much heavier on the Quick Time Event action scenes than any previous entry. Events unfold pretty much as you'd expect - assuming you've ever seen a hardboiled crime thriller or two-fisted action movie before. There really aren't that many twists left to reveal at this stage, as the action picks up with Bigby entering the lair of Fabletown gangster The Crooked Man. Surprisingly, that warning isn't quite as dire this time around, despite this being the final chapter in the tale. I won't be revealing any blunt story details, but as always, just by talking around the way the story unfolds, you may learn more than you wanted to. Of course, this is the point where I wave my hands in an ominous way and warn of potential spoilers ahead.

Sometimes it is so easy to go along with what the main character thinks, so it was fun to realize that maybe she didn't quite solve the case the way she thought she did. maybe not as clever as she, and the reader, sometimes thinks. With regard to the cases, most of them are easily solved by Mma Ramotswe with some creative solutions, which make them fun to read. That the cases are "short" makes sense in light of the fact that we get so much personal history about Mma Ramotswe and other characters. While there is one "case" that spans most of the book, there are in fact several smaller cases that get solved relatively quickly. The fact that there are several smaller mysteries in the book also surprised me. This also made the book a less light-hearted than I thought it would be. In this book almost the entire start of the book and significant portions throughout the book are spent on Mma Ramotswe's life and experiences, which definitely aren't cozy parts of the book. Of course the main characters need to be introduced, but based on my experience with other books in the genre (which is not extensive) you will get an introduction in the book, but the background of the main character is expanded on in subsequent part of the series. Furthermore, I was a bit surprised by how much time was spent on introducing the main characters in this first book. I thought it very much felt like a part of the story and I can appreciate how McCall Smith integrated it into the story. The book spends a fair bit of time talking about the history of the characters and places that in context of events from Botswana's history. I was mostly surprised by how much history about Botswana was woven into the story. Going into the book I mostly expected just a funny, cozy little mystery book where the main character would solve a single mystery/crime. A couple of things surprised me about the book. I have had my copy of this book for a while, but I decided to finally pick it up as I was looking for something cozy to read. Over the course of the book we learn what led up to the founding of the detective agency and we follow Mma Ramotswe as she solves several cases that are brought to her. It is the first book in a series that currently stands at 21 parts. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (I'm going to get tired of typing out that whole title real quick) is a short, cozy little book about Precious Ramotswe, usually referred to as Mma Ramotswe in the book, and her detective agency.
